Bacteriostatic water is sterile Water for Injection preserved with 0.9% benzyl alcohol. The preservative inhibits bacterial growth, so a sealed multi-dose vial stays sterile through repeated withdrawals — typically up to 28 days after the first puncture.
What ingredients are inside BAC water? (0.9% Benzyl Alcohol)
Just two components: a Water for Injection base and 0.9% benzyl alcohol acting as the bacteriostatic preservative. No salts, buffers, or other additives.
Is BAC water the same as sterile water or saline?
No. Sterile water has no preservative and is single-use once opened. Saline contains sodium chloride. BAC water contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol, making it safe for multi-dose use.
How should unopened and opened BAC water be stored?
Store at controlled room temperature, 20–25°C (68–77°F), away from direct light. Unopened shelf life is up to 24 months; after first puncture, use within 28 days.
Can BAC water expire or become contaminated?
Yes. Discard after the printed expiry, after 28 days from first puncture, or immediately if the solution is cloudy, discolored, or the seal is compromised.
